Parent Grad Info

Grad 2023  

There are two completely separate Graduation Events for the Class of 2023:

  • June 8th, 2023 – PW Grad Ceremony at the Chan Centre, organized by PW Secondary (info below)
  • June 17th, 2023 – PW Grad Prom Dinner/Dance – unsanctioned by the school and planned by parents

The PW Parent Prom Committee is working with very closely with the PW Student Prom Committee to plan the PW Prom of their dreams for the Grad Class of 2023. We have used surveys and questionnaires to help guide our decisions.

Questions and Answers about the PW Prom of 2023

  • The first question was: should we hold a school sanctioned & planned prom, or an unsanctioned Prom organized by a Committee of Grade 11 and 12 Parents? The main difference is that with a school sanctioned event, there would be teachers, administrators and possibly even parents & grandparents. Answer: A definitive “No thank you.”
  • The second question was: Would the PW Grad Class of 2023 prefer a traditional prom at a hotel with all the trimmings like Dinner/Dance/DJ, similar to June 2022? Or would they prefer a more eclectic prom at a venue like the Aquarium or Science World? Answer: A Traditional Prom
  • The third question was: Would the PW Grad Class of 2023 prefer a bigger ballroom that seats 400+ people or a more cozy ballroom that only seats 200? The bigger ballroom ensures there is plenty of room for the parent chaperones and “+1’s ” (invited guests). Answer: Bigger Ballroom

Although we were hoping to hold our event at the Pan Pacific Hotel like last year, we couldn’t find anyone to sign the contract (business), so we decided to move our event to the Terminal City Club. We are grateful to a parent from Prince of Wales who sponsored us as a member. On Wednesday, March 8, 2023 we paid the deposit and are now working to raise more funds and plan the fun activities and related events.

  • Selling tickets starting Monday, November 28, 2022 by the students
  • Direct Donation using SchoolCashOnline (anything over $20 gets you a tax receipt)
  • Students plan a Krispy Kreme fundraiser in the neighbourhood
  • Other diverse fundraisers planned by the PW Student Prom Committee and the PW Parent Prom Committee like selling chocolate

Members of the volunteer grad parent committee include: Nadine, Peggy, Helena, Jennifer, Cindy, Leanne, Suzanne with Elke as Chair.
